The Songs of Beltaine

On May Eve, first song of Beltaine

I hear the songs of May
being stripped now from their looms
With fairy hands upon them now
To part the shadowed veil

We sing beside this kindled flame
The songs of birth and love
To stoke the flames within ourselves
To set our spirits flying

We lay us down among the fields
To teach each sprouting blossom
How to bloom and shine again
The hours are upon us

We sing these words to wake the Gods
who've slumbered through the winter
Come and sing and dance with us
Beloved come to loving

We lay this night by stars and moon
To sleep as seeds before us
To wake to May Day's trumpet sounds
To Summer's joyous day!

May Day Morn - second song of Beltaine

We rise to see the Summer's here
Her mantle spilling over
We lie upon the warming ground
With oat seeds cast about us

To wash by mornings growing light
With dews both sweet and gentle
To clean away the last of it
The Winter's sorrows faded

To walk among the growing fields
to touch the grain now green
I sing to you Sir Barleycorn
We call you to our revels

As birds fly forth and others walk
To dance the round this morn
We come now here to be again
The Spring and Summer's children.

We gather up the days new wood
to set aflame the future
Bright plans are laid in morning's peace
And Maypoles now to raising

The May Day Revels - third song of Beltaine

We light the torches now ablaze
to sing and dance and revel
These May Day songs to lift the soul
To brighten up the evening

We eat the fruits, the first born leaves
To thank the Green for growing
We drink the passioned honey wine
To call the bees to making

Now walk the coals to seal this pact
Bathed in holy smoke
To cleanse your soul and bring you peace
The bright times are upon us

The stars will dance as on you sing
The mead must keep it's flowing
to wake the dead and stir the wings
Of workers to their buzzing

We turn toward home with burning hearts
To warm our hearths again
These burning coals within my breast
To light my spirit's walking
